Shoemakers California Association letters, 1849.

The letters to Andrew Cochran concern the proposed Shoemakers California Association, a company of men willing to travel overland to California to mine for gold. Most of the letters are from investors, but they discuss candidates to join the overland expedition and the preparations for the journey. Most of the participants were from Pennsylvania.
